Portrait of Lacey with Child

By LA Felleman

Her theme repeats a beat

Da Da

“Expect a girl,” the doctor showed her

Baby, what have we done?

She was hoping for a boy because

You know : Girls

Spent a weekend afternoon

Watching sissy’s kids

Tear through their home

Now she is doubting

Now she needs a nap

Maternal might not be her mode

Movie music tracks sound moods

Preparing viewers for what’s in the room

Behind the closed door

Anticipating

“Fool, don’t go there!” she would scream at the screen

As the da-das from Jaws grow : Insistent
